And why this is so powerful for change.
The past few days my social media and inbox has been flooded with feel good stories of 2018, articles on New Year New You, and all this other stuff that’s motivating at times
But it still didn’t help me yesterday when I was in a bad mood
That’s the thing with motivation, it’s fleeting, just like inspiration
The thing that drives us to act the most, and to act again and again isn’t a you tube video with Mathew McCanahay talking about his take on life
It’s a cool video, but I can’t relate to him- especially after those creepy Lincoln commercials
The person I can relate most to is myself, because that’s the only real experience I’ve had in life, the one I see and believe to be true for me
Which brings me to the power of beliefs
Beliefs are the most powerful motivators for taking action. Your subconscious always propels you to act within accordance to your beliefs
Whether or not you’re conscious of doing so
That means in order to create real sustainable changes in your life- You have to focus on who you want to be instead of what you want to accomplish
It sounds a little weird at first but hear me out
Focusing on the type of person you want to be allows for the achievements to come as part of the process
Just like focusing on healthy eating habits naturally produces a better functioning body, better cellular health= less sickness and disease, and more balanced body composition
So instead of focusing on the outcomes this January- like “I want to lose 25lbs” focus on the behaviors that would lead to achieving the weight loss
An example could be- becoming a person who moves every day.
Doing something simple like counting steps and trying to add 100 steps a day.
Or focusing on being the person that goes to the gym 3-4 times per week.
And show up.
That’s creating a new identity for yourself in a powerful way. One of my mentors and best selling author on behavior James Clear agrees..
“In order to believe in a new identity, we have to prove it to ourselves.”
It’s the small wins that solidify not just a new habit, but a new identity, a new believe about yourself.
When you show up for workouts 3x a week for 2 months, what’s not to believe? You’re doing it and so you’re proving to yourself the identity of someone that prioritizes their workouts and shows up, no matter what
It’s not about the outcome of the habit, especially in the beginning, it’s really about creating the habit that is the success
We’ve seen this with our students again and again. That’s why our program is designed around supporting you with daily habit practice not changing your whole life overnight
In our last 90 day program which wraps this weekend (can’t wait for the party!)
We had a number of students lose 20+ lbs, who counted their wins as having to go shopping for smaller clothes, and one student who bought her first pair of “skinny jeans” at age 54.
Without giving up wine, dinning out and other foods they love. Without overhauling their lives or making over their kitchens
It’s about the process and about consistency, but more than that it’s about support
And that’s why we’re the gold standard fitness studio in Stamford. But we’re more than that, we’re a Lifestyle Transformation Program and we’re opening up our pre- sale list for our next 90 Day program called Start Strong.
The program starts January 26th but you can get on our early bird list now and get 30% off the monthly price when you sign up.
This program won’t be for everyone, it’s for those men and women who want REAL change and are done with the quick fix mentality.
If you want a fully supported program with your own personal coaches to help you become the person you want to be in this life then click on the link to be eligible for early bird pricing.
Here’s to a hell of a new year, and we’re taking it day by day.
