It’s easier to be happy on a beautiful day like today
The sun is shining, it’s warm outside
Does it get any better?
Actually, it can
Because you can wake up to a warm, beautiful, Friday feeling everyday if you want to
Start by learning to control your thoughts…
Take ownership of how you perceive the world and how this lens colors everything you see and experience
It’s not easily done but it can happen
How do I know?
I’ve done it myself… and I continue to work on it every day
Not to say I’m as sweet as a Georgia peach all the time!
But there was a time in my life
when everything was very dark and even though my life looked cool from the outside, on the inside I was lost
All I was focusing on was failure
Opportunities I didn’t take, relationships that fell apart and feeling like I didn’t know what to do next
As a result I was constantly looking for evidence of my failure in the smallest interactions with friends and family, at work, but especially in my out of shape body
It wasn’t until I changed my perspective on how I viewed myself and my choices in life, and really took ownership of the story I was telling myself
That it all changed
But what did I do to start the process of living on the lighter side of things? And getting motivated to take action?
I started to focus on TODAY…and only today
The Dalai Lama has a great saying on this practice:
“There are only two days in the year when nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow. Today is the right day to love, believe, do… and mostly live.”
But how do you start to focus on today when there are a million things you have to do this week and you feel like you have to plan all the time?
Count your wins
Count your wins…
It means that at the end of each day you sit down and list everything you did that day to move you closer to your goals
That’s it, start there
It’s so simple most people won’t do it
(Kind of like eating more fruits and veggies to lose body fat)
Counting your wins gives you some perspective on your day because you probably did more than you think
But you’re more focused on what you didn’t do
If one of your goals is to get stronger and lose some body fat:
– a win would be taking the stairs and not the elevator
– adding a 15 minute walk on your lunch break
– putting a reminder in your phone to drink water each hour
– scheduling your workouts a head of time
– choosing not to eat the bread at dinner because you want a glass of wine
See what I mean?
All of those things are positive habits that contribute daily to your success
But we forget about the little things because we’re looking at the long-term change that we don’t see yet
By counting your wins you reframe your thinking and build positive momentum that you will be more inclined to keep building on
Rather than beating yourself up or blowing the next two days of your nutrition focus because you had wine with dinner
Or you only got to the gym twice instead of 3 times this week
Counting your wins also helps you see where you can add some small adjustments to your daily routine that are totally doable.
This is such a powerful mindset tool that we’ve added it to our private facebook members group. Each day of the week is a little reminder to make the most important thing… the most important thing!
So every Wednesday is Count your wins Wednesday!
Just another way we provide support and accountability to our Organic Fitness family… because the body doesn’t truly transform without the mind (they share the same apartment)
Give it a try
